What does it mean to printers?

In 1986 the state of California passed Proposition 65 which is titled Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act. Basically this regulation states that no one can knowingly discharge any chemical into the water and on to the land which could cause cancer or reproductive problems. The regulators are constantly adding new chemicals to the list, but for glass decorating we are primarily concerned with heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury and so on.

Prop 65 covers the entire ife of the product, so production, recycling and disposal all need to be taken into account. So you are responsible for the product from beginning to end.

There are two types of pigment systems available to ink manufacturers – organic and in-organic. Organic inks are derived from organic sources while in-organic inks are based upon minerals and heavy metals.

RUCO Inks are manufactured in facilities completely free of heavy metals eliminating the chance of accidental contamination. Heavy metals of any kind have been eliminated from our processes for well over 25 years.

ALL RUCO Ink series are made using Proposition 65 Compliant ORGANIC pigments.
